چکیده

Spinosad is a new and highly promising insecticide with efficacy against a wide range of insects, including houseflies. Selection of the field collected houseflies produced a highly spinosad resistant (>150fold) strain of housefly following 10 generations of selection. Spinosad resistance was a recessive trait linked to autosome 1 which could not be overcome with the insecticide synergists piperonyl butoxide, S; S; S-tributylphosphorotrithioate nor diethyl maleate. Selection for resistance to spinosad did not result in cross-resistance to other insecticides. These results suggest spinosad resistance in the housefly is due to a unique resistance mechanism. 2003 Elsevier Science (USA). All rights reserved.

The nicotinic acetylcholine receptor subunits Mdα5 and Mdβ3 on autosome 1 of Musca domestica are not involved in spinosad resistance

Spinosad is a relatively new insecticide that exerts its toxic action via nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs). Spinosad resistance in house flies appears to be due to an altered target site. To evaluate the molecular basis of spinosad resistance, two nAChR subunit genes, Mdα5 and Mdβ3 were cloned and characterized from an insecticide-susceptible (aabys) and spinosad resistant (rspin) str...

Analysis of Differentially Expressed Genes Related to Resistance in Spinosad- and Neonicotinoid-Resistant Musca domestica L. (Diptera: Muscidae) Strains

BACKGROUND The housefly is a global pest that has developed resistance to most insecticides applied against it. Resistance of the spinosad-resistant strain 791spin and the neonicotinoid-resistant 766b strain is believed to be due to metabolism. We investigate differentially expressed genes in these two resistant strains related to metabolism in comparison with an insecticide-susceptible referen...

The nicotinic acetylcholine receptor subunit Mdalpha6 from Musca domestica is diversified via post-transcriptional modification.

Recent studies showed that deletion of a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) subunit gene, Dalpha6 in Drosophila melanogaster results in a strain that is resistant to spinosad, indicating that Dalpha6 is important for the toxic action of this insecticide. To determine if spinosad resistance in house flies was due to a mutation(s) of Mdalpha6 (the orthologue of Dalpha6 from house flies), cD...

Sex-limited Inheritance and Abnormal Sex Ratio in Strains of the Housefly.

M A L E S of the housefly (Musca domestica L.) causing sex-limited inheritance of the mutants on the second chromosome have frequently been observed in strains of North American origin (SULLIVAN 1958, 1961; MILANI and FRANCO 1959; HIROYOSHI 1960, 1961). TSUKAMOTO, BABA and HIRAGA (1961) also found similar males in a strain from Japan. When those males were crossed to females carrying recessive ...

A Maternal-Effect Sex-Transformation Mutant of the Housefly, MUSCA DOMESTICA L.

A maternal-effect sex-transformation mutant, transformer (tra), of the housefly is described. It is located on autosome 4 in close linkage with the Ba locus. Normally, the sex of Musca domestica is determined by the presence or absence of an epistatic factor, M. When produced by tra/tra mothers, a large fraction of the tra/tra genotypic female progeny carrying no M factors are transformed to de...
